This session will be folded into the Balance the Star Dance Weekend and will be an opportunity both to reconnect with fellow Country Dancers Alumni and to meet some of the other regular folk dancers from the area. The dancing will be in the main hall with music provided by the Berea Castoffs (Al and Alice White and friends) and calling by Wendy Graham and local callers. The Folk Circle office will be set aside as a cozy space for conversation and browsing memorabilia.

The book is entitled Keeping the Vigil: A Memoir and More.  

There will be a Colonial Area with demonstrations in spinning, powder horn making, a blacksmith with apprentices making colonial fishing kits for sale, and a replica 1788 cannon used at the siege of Fort Boonesborough; a Native American Indian area with a drum and drum team for a short time of dancing; a Civil War area and the Berea Festival Dancers who will have an hour of dance demonstration and will invite guests to join them.  

The Sociology Department is hosting a light brunch to give alumni, friends, and family members a chance to mingle, and to allow our current students the opportunity to hear about what our alumni have been doing since graduating from Berea. This is an open-house kind of event, so free to come and go as you have time!

This is Jill Bouma’s last year teaching – she’ll be retiring in May.  She’s hoping to catch up with lots of alums at the brunch.  Please come to share your news and say goodbye.

Forestry Outreach Center (FOC) at the Pinnacles: 2047 Big Hill Rd. 

Join us for a group hike with FOC staff to one of the Pinnacles overlooks. The destination will be decided by the group before departure. Please wear appropriate clothing/footgear and bring water. Be prepared for uneven and sometimes strenuous terrain.

Stop into Appalachian Center Gallery for a pop-up exhibit of artifacts from Berea College History and the Appalachian Region. We will show over 50 rarely seen artifacts, including our oldest quilts, early Berea College crafts, objects from athletics, cheer, and the old gyms, Country Dancer costumes, unusual artifacts from Appalachia, and much more. The Curator will be on hand to talk about the objects and answer questions.
